Writing, My Drug

>> Friday, April 8, 2011

So, the previous version of this post was very long and rambly and kind of emo. Such happens when I let myself write when the BBoA is nibbling on my toes. D;

For brevity's sake, here's what the post said without all the mumbo-jumbo:

I'm considering starting a new blog. Yes, a Sims blog. No, not a new story. Confused? Read on.

Desperate Sims is becoming very... complicated. Don't get me wrong, I don't see this as a terribly bad thing. In fact, some may see it as a very good thing! Unfortunately, the problem I'm beginning to face is that what I'd like to write about the Kanes can no longer really be contained in the story, which is beginning to focus heavily on Drama and Plots. It leaves me very little room to do anything that isn't related to the overarching story.

So... What I'm kind of thinking is starting a bit of a Spin-Off, like a journal told from the point of view from one of the characters: Specifically, Margo. Basically, what I would do is slow down posts on Desperate Sims, but write numerous shorter entries on the second blog to give a glimpse of what's going down as it happens, through her eyes, as well as getting on opportunity to focus a little on more 'mundane' things.

Yes yes, I know, Margo's still a baby--that's why this is something I don't plan on doing for a while. (We're talking, several months.) I haven't even decided if it's a particularly good idea, which is why I'd like some input. Is this something worth pursuing? Or have I totally fallen off the deep end?

Honestly, I really, really want to be doing MORE writing--I'm seriously addicted to plotting and planning, I spend half of my times in daydreams about the Kanes these days--but updating Desperate Sims more often would honestly cause me to lose my marbles.

Soo... thoughts? Suggestions? Comments?

It sounds like a great idea! I'm interested to find out what little Margo is going to become, as a sim I mean. Her traits, her likes & dislikes. Alrighty, so what I should've just said was her personality. lol

And you want to babble about the BBoA then do so. We will listen! ;)

Awww, Jen. <3 Maybe one of these days I will babble on about it, but talking about my emotions makes me feel guilty. Even talking to my husband about 'em. It drives him nuts. D;

I'm glad you like the idea, though! Obviously it wouldn't start for a looong while, not until Margo's old enough--but I have some other ideas of what to do with it instead of just a "journal", so.. gonna have to ponder it over the next couple months!

I actually quite like the idea. One thing that I miss on the DS blog is that you get little time to show day to day family life. It's all plots, twists and drama. Something a bit calmer would be lovely.

Off the deep end - 4 or 5 blogs. That should do it. LOL

If you created a new story, focusing on Margo, I'd probably be the happiest person in the world!!!! I would LOVE it if you did that!

@PiB: I do care about 10x more about story-view, but in DS I had a way I could work in *some* day-to-day stuff until recently... Margo's journal would be perfect. Would also give me an opportunity to write from 1st-person view, which is something I'd like to try.

@LordCharles: Awww, yay!! Well, consider it done, then. :D It's gonna be a loooonnngg time before Margo's old enough to start writing something like that, but the second she can, I'll be starting it!

I think it's an excellent idea. It will give you a chance to focus on Kane's who aren't in the forefront in the main blog. Who better than a kid to see what's really going on?

I can just see it: Margo is sitting quietly playing with her dollhouse as the adults talk around her, forgetting about their little one. You could even insert a little more comedy.

Sounds like a winnar, winnar, chicken dinnar to me.

Yes! My own thoughts, too--it'd give me the opportunity to focus on a *lot* more types of things I never was able to explore with Desperate Sims, either. School life, friends connections, and then actually going from 1st person view, which will--of course--make it much easier to give Margo her "voice". ;) (And I know how much Chrysame loves voices!)

Granted, this is something I probably won't start until Margo is a teenager, for various reasons--but that won't be as long as you'd think, because Season 7 is going to be faaiiirrlly short compared to what y'all are used to from me.

What is this Nonsense?!

This here be a blog for the writer of Desperate Sims to talk about things not-so-story related. Real life, writing, other Simmy stuff, yada yada. If you're confused... Sorry! D;
