- Day Fourteen -
Favorite / Least Favorite Sim Life Stage

I guess it would make a bit more sense to start off with why I like Young Adult the least, and that is because they are everywhere. When you first make a sim, it's always a YA. So, most stories are about YA's. Sure, it's the "coming out" age of a sim, where the world is their oyster... But I don't particularly like how that suddenly uproots and changes the story: suddenly they have to find a job and find love and get married and make babies, which is basically part of the plot of every Sim's story out there, which makes it feel a little bit redundant. Not to say I dislike those things--I just don't find them particularly "new" anymore.

And then you have kids. When a Sim hits the child stage, it's a rather huge turning point in their life; they still require a bit of taking care of, but for the most part they're now self-sufficient and also able to leave home on their own. They're no longer a little blob that needs taking-care-of! A Sim Child's job is to make friends, to have fun, and to spend time with family--three things that, as simple as they are, I super-duper enjoy. I just don't feel a family is complete without a child running around, either!

Unfortunately, the Child stage is also the most neglected it seems; by the time one kid reaches Child there's a toddler around that everyone is more fascinated with, and when there's no more toddlers to steal the spotlight, there's Teens around. I always feel like it's easy to miss out on giving kids a full life-stage experience, which makes me increasingly motivated to try to fix that.

This is also why Generations will probably end up being my fave EP. ^^ Sleeping bags! Ghost stories! Reading to kids in bed! /dance!

I think I will enjoy the child stage more with generations :D. As it is they just can't do as much as I'd like and are neglected in the clothes front as well.

I'm not too keen on child because there really isn't enough that they can do. They can start learning some skills, but not others. I do hope that generations makes children more fun to have around.

Oh, and the stage only lasts a week on a normal lifespan - once you add in school and homework, they'll only have a weekend of being and having fun. :)

I can see your point about young adult. It tends to be abused a lot in stories.

Thank you, Blogger, for eating my comment!

Anyways: Honestly, even though Children have less interactions with others and with objects, it isn't how many animations they have, but how you interpret them--and no one seems to ever attempt to muster any creativity when dealing with children, in stories. They rely on EA to tell them what stories are available for them, and... No. You just can't do that.

Their lives are simple, but not THAT simple. It's not 'Harry met Sally and they got along.' I'm sorry, my childhood was NOT that dry; I recall it being one of the most colorful and imaginative times in my life. It's insanely disappointing that because people have to think a little outside the box to write about kids, they just don't even bother.

To be honest, it seems like if the story doesn't inevitably lead to two people humping, it doesn't get written--and Children give such freedom from the redundant, over-done focus of Romance in the Sims. (I am SO sick of romance!) But, at this point--especially after reading the first couple chapters of Twilight, EGGGHHH *throwwup*) I've lost hope that the average woman is capable of doing anything but obsessing over men.

Cynical? Me? Noooo... >.>

Seriously though, the simplicity of kid's lives shouldn't be a hindrance to how interesting they are. It's not the ingredients you're given, but how you put them together that's important!

Oy am I ranty today or what? ;D Is it obvious how sick I am of romance?! Laawwlll.

Which is funny, because I'm just preaching to the choir, here... Oh well. I CAN CRY IF I WANTS TO. D;

Bunk beds! Invisible friends!

I like the adult or elder stage best. Adults get the short shift and elders? Forgetaboutit.

It seems that when the YA gets married and has babies there's a tendency to skip ahead to the next generation. Adults are established and there's still fire there. Still sim life to be lead and new things to do. And elder? I hate how EA portrays them but the kids are usually out of the house so they can travel or be the Bested Grandpa Evar!

I'd love to read a late in life romance. :P Yes, romance but with a twist! How about Grandparents Gone Wild. I always thought about doing a blog with Ma Bagley and a gangster vibe. So many possibilities.

Don't like the toddler stage. Potty training? Been there, done that in real life. I'm not interested in simulated pt training. Blargh.

Aaaahahahahah--TOTALLY, Chrysame. ;D I *really* like the Adult stage, too, which is why I love that my age mod makes it so long (and also how they're allowing us to change age-lengths in Generations, squee!)

A Late-in-Life romance is an *Awesome* idea. That would really spice up that aspect of sims stories--they're always about teens or new graduates! That's part of the reason I <3 Charlie's story in the Drifter--old-age romance, oh yeah!--but man... Ma Bagley. Grandparents Gone Wild. Chrysame, you're a genius. :D

The Toddler stage is definitely pretty boring. They're cute and all, but I feel like I could leave them home alone when my Sims go to work and they'd be fine. They don't cause trouble really, and teaching them the same things each generation gets old. I like 'em much better once they're a bit older.

MAAAAN. You know what I wish was included in Generations? Jumping on the bed/couch. I REALLY miss that from Sims 2!

Haha, love the pic! Those little... ;)

Your so right about the child stage. They have so much to learn and so much ahead of them. I love to watch them, they are all just too cute. lol

What is this Nonsense?!

This here be a blog for the writer of Desperate Sims to talk about things not-so-story related. Real life, writing, other Simmy stuff, yada yada. If you're confused... Sorry! D;
