10 Day Meme: Day Seven

>> Monday, February 14, 2011

So, today is Valentine's Day! I have to say, this holiday is probably my least favorite for the reasons most adequately and humorously described here, but also because it reminds me how easily I'm sucked into social trends. There are some things that are easy to resist--Justin Bieber, Twilight, I'm looking at you!--but this... well, it's incredibly hard not to feel affected by February 14th when it captivates pretty much everyone around you.

Today, though, I feel a bit more inspired by something else that's happened recently: the birth of my niece, Sydney. Yesterday at about 6am she waltzed into the world, and with a second niece following suit in about 5 months, I can say that today I feel a bit more motivated to get pregnant than to throw paper hearts at my husband.

Let's face it, though: Valentine's Day is just about makin' babies.

Now, I have no intentions of that happening anytime soon, so at least for today, my husband focused more on the "shower with monetary measures of affection" part of V-Day than the "makin' babies!" part, and I can't say I ended up too output. I didn't get a heartfelt, handmade card or a dozen pesticide marinated roses, but I did get a book (13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson, for anyone wondering) and a mini slow cooker.

Okay, so yeah, I dragged him to the mall and I picked them out myself--but I'm happy!

In any case, while today is no different than yesterday nor likely how tomorrow will be, I can't hold back my amusement about the next topic of my 10 Day Meme, and how it fits in with today's holiday:

Day Seven
Four turn offs.

1. Smoker Breath/Teeth/Hands - I will be totally, perfectly honest: the visual act of smoking, to me, has always been very debonair, smooth, bad-ass. I love watching older movies with women taking long drags out of foot-long filters and the main logo for the TV Show Mad Men is really freaking sexy to me--but everything else about it is really disgusting. I've been tempted to smoke before in order to help cut back on stress, but... It would be a total waste in every sense of the word.

2. Pants That Don't Fit - Sagging is so yesterday, and tight pants just look retarded; seeing people try to mix the two is even worse. I'm never more unattracted to someone than when they can't choose clothes that fit properly to their body. The same goes for women, but for the most part, I'm generally more attracted to men--and they're the ones who actually fall victim to this more often.

3. Overuse of Make-Up/Accessories - This one is mostly towards women, but, if a man's got too many piercings, tattoos, wears eyeliner, yada yada... Nnngh. Actually, I think any man who actually thinks to wake up in the morning and put on a necklace or put in an earring is either gay (which is okay) or annoying (which is not okay); both of which being factors that would make me not attracted to them. I'm a very minimalistic kind of person... Too many baubles are distracting!

4. Trying to Look "Perfect" - People who spend 2 hours in front of a mirror every morning, guys who gel their hair and wear cologne like it's going out of style... I don't even like these kinds of folks as my friends usually, because they constantly make me feel self concious, or feel stupid for not wanting to look like a model every day. It's not a crime wanting to look good, but it shouldn't be a crime that I Honestly. Don't. Care. XD Anyways I don't need a partner that's prettier than me, thanks!

We aren't big on V'Day. We do dinner's and prezzies throughout the year and I think those are the times when you feel especially loved because they are spontaneous. Does that make sense? lol

It does make sense. :) I'm actually kinda jealous, because it takes a lot of leg-pulling to get my husband to do stuff like that--even when, before we got married, he said that's how he liked to do things--but I'm getting used to it.

I think it wouldn't be such a big deal to me if my friends weren't all really big on V-day, though, and liked parading around their presents. It's good to feel happy, but, V'day sometimes feels more like "National Make-People-Feel-Jealous Day", heh. ;D

My hubby bought some things - all sharable. Season 3 of Heroes, bottles of 2 different liquors, and a box of fancy chocolates.

But if he hadn't, I'd be cool with that because V'day is mainly a marketing ploy. Though I do hate co-workers who get huge bouquets and put them on their desk. Yep, jealous.
