Tips on using Picasa
>> Friday, September 23, 2011
There's a lot of really good photo-hosting services out there, but of all of them I would have to say that Picasa is by far the easiest (for me, at least) for Sim story blogging, for various reasons. Biggest is probably that I use Blogspot, and Picasa is built right into it--but even if you don't, it has some pretty handy tools that make it really handy to use, anyways~!
But, there are some things about it a little hard to get used to, so I'm gonna try and give a quick explanation of the way to use Picasa to get the most bang for your (free) buck!
A few extra notes:
- Picasa has some really handy photo editing features that make cropping and lightening darker shots really easy and fast--these changes will upload, but won't effect the hard copy unless you manually save.
- You can move each folder on the left sidebar into a new 'Collection' that can make it really easy to keep all your folders with Sim's screenshots together. Just right-click a folder and hit an option under 'Move to Collection...' That way you can collapse everything else you aren't sorting through.
- Picasa has some pretty neat collage-making options--can pry spot some of mine in the video!
- It will take some time to upload the photos when you 'Preserve Image Quality', because it's both resizing the image and maintaing the file size at the same time. Trust me, it's worth it.
- The URL to the page with all your images is probably going to be https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/myphotos (when you're logged in).

Your are seriously so cute Miss Kaleeko! ;)
I'm a big fan of Picasa too mainly because of the whole link-to-blogger-thing as well. But it does have some great options in allowing you to change your pics. PS came be too much for me sometimes so if in doubt I'll open up Picasa to modify my shots!
It does annoy me how it automatically updates all sim shots & personal photos from my computer as soon as I open it though. I'm sure these a tick box somewhere in Options to stop that. lol
At the moment I organize my blog shots in files on a separate hard drive. I noticed too if you delete some from Picasa you delete them from you computer & blogs, right? Or is that only online?
I'm not cute! I'm a ferocious beast of dooomm!!! *wishful thinking* x_x
I love love love Picasa--but it does take a little bit to find all the ways to stop it doing some of the annoying things you listed.
Like I said in the vid, you can stop Picasa scanning all your folders on boot-up by going to File->Add Folder to Picasa... and change the scan settings on each folder. I always leave all my Sim's folders to 'Scan Always' because I do want those to be updated all the time.
If you delete them from Picasa, it will delete the hard copy--unless you right-click the folder name and hit 'Remove from Picasa'; that will delete it from Picasa, but not from your harddrive. As for online deletion--there's not a lot you can do in the program itself to delete anything online. You have to actually go to the website to delete anything you've uploaded--usually. There's a few exceptions, but they're hard to do unintentionally. XD
Hope that helps a bit!
AND I'M NOT CUTE. *sulks* ... lol. Kidding. <3
You've already converted me to Picasa and walked me through it, but I just want to say that it's awesome that you try to help people so much with Sims-related things. It's so nice to see in this cynical worrrrld.
Also, KALEEKO IS A FEROCIOUS BEAST AND HER "CUTE" IS MERELY A WEAPON TO DISARM US.
